To Go or Not to Go

college

As I was growing up, the oldest child in a large family, I mentioned going to college a couple of times, and my parents would say, “That would be nice…” I knew that every dollar was accounted for (and some of them already spent) before “our check” came on Thursdays, so a discussion about my parents helping with my dream never took place. After I had all of my plans made and nailed down, and with a few weeks till departure, I stood before my folks and revealed. Raised brows and stammering from them…

Shortly after, I stood with my bags beside me and determination in my pocket, and they were still in disbelief. They were fast learners though — when I ended my first semester of teaching, they believed me and accepted that I was going to college.

My mom accepted that I was going to retire much more easily!
